COUNCIL BLUFFS — A plea deal for a Treynor High School student accused of sexual abuse has the blessing of his alleged victims.
Kreighton Elwood, who turned 18 on Wednesday, is accused in a series of sexual assaults. He is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of first-degree kidnapping in connection with a pair of incidents last winter.
Dan McGinn, overseeing the case for the Pottawattamie County Attorney's Office, said he was in contact with the alleged victims while working on a tentative agreement with Elwood's attorney.
“They were heavily involved in negotiations,” McGinn said. “They're glad we were able to get this resolved before trial.”
On Tuesday, Elwood withdrew a request to move proceedings in the case to juvenile court, which had to be done before a deal could be reached, McGinn said.
In November and December of 2012, Elwood allegedly abused two females. In all, five females have leveled complaints against Elwood; three of the cases are in juvenile court.
Elwood, the son of Kevin Elwood, the superintendent of the Treynor Community Schools, has a change of plea and sentencing hearing scheduled for Sept. 19.
