Marcus Theatres to expand special programming
By Bob Fischbach / World-Herald staff writer

Marcus Theatres is launching its own Theatre Entertainment Network on Monday, scheduling special programming at select theaters each Monday through Thursday.

The programming will include events broadcast live, classical music, opera, ballet, theater and classic movies. One screen at each of the 29 Marcus theaters will show network programming every Monday through Thursday. Participating area theaters include Village Pointe in Omaha, Twin Creek in Bellevue and The Grand in Lincoln.

While Marcus has offered alternate entertainment on the big screen for years, the network allows a significant increase in nontraditional options, said Rolando Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of Marcus. The company is based in Milwaukee.

Some locations will also offer special kids' programs on weekends.

Programs scheduled for Monday's kickoff are “2013 LOL Short Film Festival,” “Starbuck” and “Animal House.”

Other programs scheduled for September include “Paul McCartney and Wings Rockshow,” “Unstoppable Live With Kirk Cameron,” “Clean Guys of Comedy,” “Dazed and Confused,” “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Between Us,” “Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey” and “The Hunt.”

Ticket prices will vary from $5 and up, depending on the event.
