The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 98 degrees today for Omaha, and if the mercury creeps much higher, it will challenge the record for this date.
The highest temperature in Omaha on this date was 100 degrees in 1955, according to Rick Chermok, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley.
Humidity, however, will not play a significant role in making people uncomfortable because the day will bring a relatively dry heat, he said.
A cold front is expected to drop slowly across the region Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing with it a chance for rain overnight into Wednesday morning.
Chermok said the next chance for rain in the metro is late in the week, possibly by Friday night and Saturday.
Temperatures have a hard time climbing into the upper 90s at this time of year, and Chermok said it's likely this will the hottest day for the rest of the year.
