The first of several town hall meetings on federal safety measures kicks off tonight in Grand Island.
Hosted by the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division, the meetings aim to educate the public about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s safety system called CSA — Compliance, Safety, Accountability — which launched in 2010 to monitor a motor carrier’s on-the-road performance and issue penalties for unsafe driving behavior.
The CSA program includes a ban on cell phones and texting and requires drivers with a CDL to provide the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles with a current copy of their medical examiners certificate, as well as the revised “Hours of Service” rules.
The town hall schedule — each of the meetings will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. — is:
>> Sept. 10 at the Midtown Holiday Inn in Grand Island
>> Sept. 11 at the Midtown Holiday Inn in Grand Island
>> Oct. 7 at the Holiday Inn Express in North Platte
>> Oct. 8 at the Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff
>> Oct. 15 at the Nielsen Community Center in West Point
>> Oct. 16 at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln
