Acting Undersecretary for USDA Rural Development Doug O’Brien is visiting Nebraska this week.
O’Brien was scheduled today to give a morning keynote address at the National Advanced Biofuels Conference and Expo, which was expected to draw about 330 attendees from 27 states to the CenturyLink Center Omaha.
He’s then going north to visit Novozymes in Blair to “discuss the focus we have on biofuels at the USDA,” said Maxine Moul, the USDA Rural Development’s Nebraska director. A Denmark-based company, Novozymes’ Blair location is an enzyme production plant that opened in May 2012 to make enzymes used in biofuels.
O’Brien, who was appointed Acting Under Secretary for USDA Rural Development in May, previously served as Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development, a Senior Advisor to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Chief of Staff to Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan.
