SAC Federal Credit Union's membership has reached 75,000, said Gail DeBoer, chief executive of the state’s largest credit union.
SAC Federal has about $670 million of assets and 21 branches, DeBoer said this week in a news release.
The credit union moved to Nebraska as the Strategic Air Command Federal Credit Union in 1948 to serve the people working at Offutt Air Force Base, which commanded the nation’s strategic bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles during the Cold War.
The credit union's field of membership has grown to include eight counties.
SAC Federal now plans to open a branch inside the new Walmart Supercenter, under construction at 50th Street and Ames Avenue.
The credit union has a “very aggressive branching strategy,” SAC senior vice president Cynthia Buettner said.
SAC had just 10 locations in 2005. A new branch opened this summer in the Peony Park Hy-Vee. A branch will also be located inside the credit union’s new headquarters, under construction at 72nd Street and Hwy. 370 in Papillion.
