Watch: First trailer for Alexander Payne's 'Nebraska'

The first trailer for Alexander Payne's latest dramedy, "Nebraska," has appeared online. And, well, it looks a lot like an Alexander Payne movie, teeming with the director's signature mix of heart, humor and pathos.

Written by Bob Nelson and shot in melancholy black and white, "Nebraska" follows an elderly father and his son who road-trip from Montana to Nebraska to claim a $1 million prize (which may not exist). Along the way, they meet up with friends, family and a few folks who want some of that prize money.

An especially crusty Bruce Dern plays the father; Dern won the best actor award at Cannes for his role. And "Saturday Night Live" alum Will Forte plays the son.

"Nebraska" looks like not only a great showcase for Dern and Forte but also an amusing depiction of small-town Midwestern life.

The film has received good early reviews out of various film festivals, but some critics say it's a little too quiet and low-key for its own good.

"Nebraska" opens at Film Streams on Nov. 22. Payne, Dern and Forte will be the guests of a special event at Film Streams on Nov. 24. Payne and some cast members will also attend a Nov. 25 screening at the Norfolk 7 movie theater.

Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments.
