STROMSBURG – The Dukes added another victory to their sparkling 2013 softball season with a 15-1 win over Cross County/High Plains on the road Thursday at Stromsburg.
The Dukes of Coach Danyel Seevers (19-1) jumped ahead 5-0 in the top of the first, added two each in the second and third, one in the fourth and then ended it with a five-run fifth.
York pounded out 10 hits to just one for the Cougars, who committed a lethal eight errors. Five York base runners were stranded in the contest and the Cougars left four aboard.
Taylor Kadavy was credited with the win for York while Amber Scherer took the loss for CC-HP.
Hayley Nienhueser homered for York, which got a triple and a double from Jordyn Stearns and two doubles from Atlanta Maronde. Kadavy was 2-2 hitting, Maronde was 3-4 and Nienhueser was 2-3.
In the circle Kadavy served up 80 pitches of which 52 were strikes. The senior ace walked only two while retiring 11 Cougars via strikeout. Scherer allowed all 10 of York’s hits, gave up seven earned runs, walked two and struck out two for CC-HP.
Destiny Williams lashed a single for the Cougars’ lone run, which she scored herself.
York’s next scheduled action is at Schuyler next Monday. The Cougars are at David City’s invitational this weekend.
