NORMAN, Okla. — UNO dropped two straight-set matches Saturday to close out the Nike Invitational.
The Mavericks (4-10) fell to Long Island-Brooklyn 25-19, 32-30, 25-18 and Tulsa 25-14, 25-19, 25-22.
“This was another outstanding day for us in blocking,” UNO coach Rose Shires said. “I was very pleased with the gains we made as a team this weekend, being able to block some of the best hitters in the country and keeping them under a .200 hitting percentage.”
Against LIU-Brooklyn, sophomore Kelley Wollak had 12 kills, seven digs and two service aces, while Michaela Schimmer finished with 15 assists, seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
UNO outblocked the Blackbirds 9-4, but LIU-Brooklyn outhit UNO .237 to .121.
The Blackbirds were led by a double-double from Tamara Ignjic, who finished with 14 kills and 11 digs while hitting .444.
Against Tulsa, Schimmer finished with 10 kills, nine assists, nine digs and three blocks, and Bailey Baxter had 17 set assists and 12 digs. Megan Schmale matched a career high with nine blocks to lead UNO.
Kellie Culbertson led Tulsa with 14 kills and 16 digs, and the Golden Hurricane hit .164 to UNO’s .108.
UNO next plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Drake.
