The Omaha Association for the Blind is looking for volunteers to help with its inaugural Tandem Bicycle Rally With the Blind.
Volunteers can sign up to lend their tandem bicycles for the rally or to be sighted captains riding the bikes with a blind partner for the Oct. 19 ride.
“This event should be a lot of fun,” said Melissa Saltzman, the association's recreation committee director.
She said the rally will be a leisurely ride with no competition. Fifteen of the group's 75 members plan to ride in the rally, which will be held at the Zorinsky Lake bike trail.
Saltzman said the event still needs about six tandem bikes and at least 15 volunteers to be ride captains.
Also needed: helmets, trailers, bike racks and volunteer bike mechanics.
Those interested in helping should contact Saltzman at 402-536-0273 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
