One person died Wednesday after a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 29 in Monona County in western Iowa, the Iowa State Patrol said.
A Cherokee, Iowa, man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 near Onawa, Iowa, on Wednesday evening.
Marc Sarchet, 52, was driving a 1997 International truck with a crane attachment when the crash occurred about 4:55 p.m., according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Sarchet was northbound on I-29, and lost control after the truck’s left front tire blew out. The truck crossed the median, rolled and came to rest on its side, blocking both southbound lanes of the Interstate.
Sarchet died in surgery after being flown to Creighton University Medical Center, according to a patrol spokesman.
The southbound lanes of I-29 were blocked for several hours. The crash remains under investigation, authorities said.
