DES MOINES — Des Moines officials are beginning the process of removing memorial decorations from gravesites in municipal cemeteries as part of a cleanup.
City workers started removing the decorations beginning Tuesday and plan to finish by Oct. 18.
Residents had been asked to take down materials since any items found on graves will be discarded.
Decorations can go up again after cleanup is done and remain until the spring cleanup in March.
