The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for help from the public in locating a badge and handgun that were stolen from the vehicle of an employee with the U.S. Marshal's Service.
Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler said the badge, a Glock-22 .40-caliber handgun, holster and belt were taken from the center console sometime between 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6:40 a.m. Wednesday.
The vehicle was parked in the area of 180th and Jackson Streets, Wheeler said. The thieves did not break any windows in the vehicle, Wheeler said, and there were no signs of forced entry. He said the employee reported that the doors were locked.
The theft was captured on video, but it is difficult to make out, Wheeler said. It appears that three people left in a dark car, he said.
Anyone with information about the missing items is urged to call the sheriff's tip line: 402-444-6000.
