The Victory Fighting Championship, a promoter of MMA events, announced its first foray into wrestling with the Victory Wrestling Challenge on Nov. 22 at Ralston Arena.
The Challenge is a freestyle and Greco-Roman event featuring past World and Olympic wrestlers in a 12-bout card. In addition to donating funds to USA Wrestling to assist in senior-level athletes training, local wrestling clubs have been able to sell tickets as a fundraiser.
Local participants include Les Sigman, Esai Dominguez, Trent and Travis Paulson. Sigman, a four-time NCAA Division II champion at UNO, is set to face three-time Division I All-American Jarod Trice. Travis Paulson, a three-time NCAA All-American at Iowa State from Council Bluffs, will face 2010 NCAA Division I champion Max Askren. Trent’s matchup will be announced later.
In the Greco-Roman portion, UNO and Omaha Creighton Prep grad Dominguez is scheduled to face 2012 Olympian and two-time World bronze medalist Justin “Harry” Lester.
MMA veteran Joe Ellenberger, a Millard South grad and regular at Victory Fighting Championship events, is also scheduled to appear.
