Huskers agree to home-and-home series with Oregon

The Huskers have agreed to a home-and-home football series in 2016 and 2017 with Oregon, the schools announced Monday.

After Tennessee officials requested a schedule change for a pair of future games with Nebraska, the Huskers were able to fill the hole by setting up the two-game series with the Ducks.

“This is a win-win scenario,” Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst said in a press release. “The University of Tennessee asked for scheduling relief, and we were able to add the University of Oregon, a perennial top 25 program, to our nonconference schedule as we roll into the College Football Playoff era. This should be a great series, not only for our football programs, but for the tremendous fans of both schools.”

Nebraska and Oregon will face off in Lincoln on Sept. 17, 2016. The Huskers will then travel to Oregon’s Autzen Stadium on Sept. 9, 2017.

Former Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost was elevated to Oregon offensive coordinator earlier this year, his fourth season with the Ducks.

“I’m going to do my best to win, whichever side I’m on in any game, so we’re going to do everything we can to prepare for and beat them, when and if the time comes,” Frost told GoDucks.com. “But I’ll root for Nebraska in any other game.”

Oregon and Nebraska will exchange $1 million payouts to the visiting team in each year of the series. The Huskers’ games with the Volunteers will now take place in 2026 and 2027. To accommodate the schedule changes, the 2016 matchup between Nebraska and Wyoming — the final showdown in a three-game series with the Cowboys — will now be played Sept. 10 at Memorial Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 17.

Husker turnovers: A slippery slope
Bo Pelini has coached 68 games at Nebraska. When NUís turnover margin is positive or even, the Huskers are 35-2. When they lose the turnover battle, theyíre 13-18. Why hasnít Nebraska joined the nationís elite? More than anything, itís turnovers.
