Mount Michael Benedictine High School was a special place for Nathan LaFave, who died Friday as the result of a traffic collision near Gretna.
As the school community mourns Nathan's death, his love for his school lives on, as testified in a YouTube video.
Nathan, who was 15 and a sophomore when he died, was interviewed during his freshman year in a promotional piece for Mount Michael.
The video is titled “Mount Michael TV Episode 5 'The Freshmen.' ”
Nathan said he had been looking forward to attending the boarding school in Elkhorn since he was 8 years old.
“It's been pretty much the best experience I've had so far in my life,” Nathan said of his Mount Michael experience.
He played soccer and ran with the cross-country team at Mount Michael, but it was the school's academics that drew him there, he said in the video.
Nathan's mother, Beth LaFave, joins him in the nearly five-minute segment.
Two other teens were injured in Friday's crash: Madeline Shely, 16, and Carly Anne Kelly, 15, both sophomores at Marian High School. They remained in critical condition Sunday at the Nebraska Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Nathan will be buried at Mount Michael's cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the high school and abbey.
