LINCOLN — Senior left-hander Zach Hirsch threw four scoreless innings Tuesday at Haymarket Park, leading the Red team to a 4-1 win in the first game of three Nebraska scrimmages this week.
Hirsch allowed just one hit and struck out three. The White team had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the fourth inning, but Hirsch worked out of the jam to preserve a 1-0 lead. The Red squad added three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Red’s Matt Jones, a redshirt freshman from Gretna, led all Huskers with two hits. Sophomore Taylor Fish drove in two runs.
Junior college transfer Christian Cox, the left fielder for the White team, represented the game’s tying run when he came up with two runners on and two outs in the seventh inning, but he lined out to end the contest.
Nebraska will play its second scrimmage at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Haymarket Park. Admission is free.
