The Omaha City Council's interim chief of staff, Jim Dowding, now has the job permanently.
City Council President Pete Festersen announced Wednesday that a subcommittee of the council — Festersen, Vice President Ben Gray and Aimee Melton — had chosen Dowding from a field of 50 applicants.
Dowding previously worked as a City Council staff assistant. He had served as interim chief of staff since Warren Weaver's retirement in July.
Dowding will be paid $89,657, which is $20,000 less than budgeted for the position, Festersen said.
