Some Nebraska defensive teammates were giving Randy Gregory a hard time after three games, calling him “the sackless wonder” because of the time he was spending in offensive backfields without getting a quarterback to the ground.
They probably knew, however, it was just a matter of time for the sophomore defensive end from Fishers, Ind.
Gregory has routinely been the most disruptive force on the Husker defense through six games. The 6-foot-6, 255-pound junior college transfer also might just be scratching the surface as he adjusts to the Football Bowl Subdivision level.
There might be All-Big Ten consideration down the line. Maybe even that Blackshirt that Gregory has been waiting to wear in practice.
“I think he is going to be outstanding,” NU coach Bo Pelini said recently. “There’s a ton more out there for this kid.”
