Erik Gustafson, 50, was taken to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition Monday after the moped he was riding east of Cunningham Lake rear-ended a moped driven by Scott A. Gatzemeyer, 45, of Omaha.
Gustafson suffered spinal injuries, said Chief Deputy Thomas Wheeler of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Wheeler said the accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Rainwood Road and Bennie Day Road.
Paramedics considered the man in critical condition en route to Creighton University Medical Center. His name and condition at the hospital were not available late Monday.
At least three people had been riding the motorized bicycles east on Rainwood about 8:30 p.m. when the first rider, a 45-year-old man, slowed to turn left onto Bennie Day Road, Sgt. Greg Kelly said. The 50-year-old, who had been following, struck the first bike from behind, sending him into the ditch, Kelly said.
The 45-year-old bicyclist also was hurt but did not require an ambulance, the sergeant said.
