One person was killed and another was critically injured in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday near 24th Street and Interstate 80 in Omaha.
Sgt. Joe Collins, a police spokesman, said Joshua L. Pacheo, 26, of Omaha was pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew R. Fleshman, 22, of Omaha was taken to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition.
A hospital spokesman said no information about Fleshman’s condition is being released.
Collins said Fleshman was driving a 2000 Buick Century east on I-80 when he exited onto the 24th Street off-ramp. The vehicle, which was traveling at 55 mph, crossed 24th Street, struck a concrete barrier and caught fire, Collins said.
Officer Eric Eaton, who was first on the scene, extinguished the fire. Collins said it took about an hour to extract Fleshman from the vehicle.
Alcohol was a contributing factor, Collins said. Fleshman was convicted of first-offense DUI in 2011.
