The Nebraska Public Utilities Commission wants the public’s help in determining whether mobile broadband providers’ coverage maps are accurate.
The commission is asking Nebraskans to download the free Mobile Pulse app from iTunes or Google Play. The app collects anonymous location and broadband speed data, not personal data, the commission said. The app runs with no interaction required from the user. Mobile Pulse uses the information to create performance reports for major broadband providers and devices.
Ultimately, the commission said, the information may be used for national consumer advocacy on broadband issues to the Federal Communications Commission.
