You can earn gift cards and discounts to local retailers and benefit local charity groups without spending a dime – all you have to do is move.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska partnered with EveryMove, a health technology company, to offer an activity-based reward system to users. There are several ways to earn points. You can log your activity online – everything from hiking to cycling to mowing the lawn counts, track your steps with a pedometer or a fitness gadget such as a Fitbit or Nike FuelBand, check in to healthy places on Facebook or Foursquare and invite friends and family to join. And if you already track your activity using a smartphone app, link the two accounts to rack up more points.
When you accrue enough points, you earn rewards, like $20 off a massage or a gift card to a sporting goods store.
BCBSNE members can join Nebraska Moves!, too. For every “active day,” BCBSNE will donate $1 to a local charity of your choosing, up to $50,000. The Nebraska chapters of the American Lung Association, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Associate, the March of Dimes, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure are participating.
Officials said they want to inspire better health through the program, which runs through Nov. 16.
