A Murray, Neb., man turned himself in Friday on a charge of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in the death of a 13-year-old boy.
Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox said Kevin P. Monahan, 60, arrived about 8 a.m. and posted bail of $1,000.
Monahan was charged Thursday.
Authorities say the semitrailer he was driving July 19 hit three cars stopped in a construction zone on U.S. Highway 75 near Plattsmouth.
Nathan Houfek, 13, died at the Nebraska Medical Center. The injured included Nathan’s mother, Kelley Houfek, and sister, Georgeann, 12.
Cox said neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the crash, which could have classified the charge as a felony.
Misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide, which alleges careless driving, carries a sentence of up to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine or both.
Monahan’s arraignment is set for Dec. 3.
