A Sunday night fire damaged the building that once housed Mister C’s Steakhouse.
Firefighters were called to the former restaurant at 5319 N. 30th St. at 10:56 p.m. and saw smoke and flames as they approached.
Fire officials declared the blaze under control at 11:36 p.m., but fire crews remained at the scene early today.
The iconic Omaha restaurant closed in 2007. Sebastiano “Yano” Caniglia had purchased a drive-in restaurant in 1953, reopened it as a Royal Boy in 1954, and turned the restaurant into Mister C’s in 1970. The business, one of more than a dozen Omaha eateries launched by Caniglia family members, specialized in steaks and Italian dishes.
