A 31-year-old Bellevue man who was trimming a friend's tree died Tuesday after he fell and a rope became tangled around his neck.
Andrew Hall was alone in his neighbor's backyard near 33rd Street and Leawood Drive when his ladder, which was leaning against the tree, slipped on a wet deck, Bellevue police said.
A rope that was tied to the tree and to a chainsaw somehow became wrapped around Hall's neck during the fall, strangling him, police said.
A neighbor in a nearby house heard the ladder fall just before 12:30 p.m. and called 911. The neighbor saw Hall on the ground but didn't spot the rope that stretched from Hall to the chainsaw, which remained in the tree, police said.
When rescuers arrived, the rope was tight around Hall's neck. Hall was taken to Nebraska Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
