CU women fall to Xavier in season finale

The Creighton women’s soccer team fell to Xavier 2-0 in its season finale Saturday at Morrison Stadium.

Xavier (9-8-1, 2-6-0) scored twice within five minutes in the second half to get the win.

In the 71st minute, Xavier’s Tori Doss played the ball off a Creighton defender, then beat goalie Danielle Rice from 12 yards for her fourth goal of the season.

Just over four minutes later, Mariah Whitaker turned a centering pass from Ashton Green into a goal from seven yards out.

Creighton (9-8-1, 2-5-1) outshot the Musketeers 22-12 but couldn’t get past Xavier goalkeeper Katie Markesbery, who posted her sixth shutout of the season with 12 saves.

Rice finished with five saves, giving her 104 on the season.
