DENVER — For the second straight night, UNO's Josh Archibald scored an overtime goal to give the Mavericks a 3-2 win over Denver.
Archibald scored 2:51 into the extra period to cap a comeback for UNO, which was down 2-0 in the second period.
UNO (4-4-0) got a sweep in its first ever national Collegiate Hockey Conference series.
Repeating his heroics from Friday night, when the Mavericks also won 3-2 in overtime, Archibald on Saturday took a pass from Brian Cooper and whipped a wrist shot over the shoulder of Denver goalie Sam Brittain.
The Mavericks tied the game early in the third period. Trailing 2-1, Brock Montpetit grabbed a loose puck and took a shot. Brittain mishandled the puck, and it trickled in between his arm and his body.
UNO fell behind 2-0 in the second period after back-to-back penalties by Ian Brady and Jaycob Megna led to power-play goals.
UNO got one goal back on its own power play later in the period. Jake Guentzel got free behind the Denver net and tucked a pass out in front to Montpetit, who snapped a shot past Brittain at 18:19.
Freshman goalie Kirk Thompson earned his third win of the season with 30 saves. Guentzel and Brady each finished with two assists.
Montpetit's two-goal game was the first for a Maverick this season.
UNO next plays at 7 p.m. Saturday, when the Mavericks host North Dakota at the CenturyLink Center.
