An Illinois couple who had three large boxes of personal possessions stolen while staying overnight in Omaha is asking for help retrieving some of the items.
Rita Skomra said she and her husband, Stewart, were moving from California to Chicago when someone stole the trailer they were pulling when they stopped Thursday at a hotel near 102nd Street and Regency Circle. Among the stolen items were boxes filled with photographs and other family memorabilia.
“One of our boys died four months ago and his death certificate was in there, as well as cards and other things from the funeral that I hadn't had the heart to go through yet,” Rita Skomra said.
Stewart Skomra works for a GPS tracking company, Temeda, and used that technology to recover the stolen trailer. The trailer, however, was nearly empty.
“We've lost every photo we have,” Rita Skomra said. “Most of the things aren't worth anything except to us. If anyone sees boxes of photos and frames, we want them to contact the Omaha Police Department.”
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 444-STOP (7867) or log on to omahacrimestoppers.net, or by texting OPD and your tip to CRIMES (274637) or through the mobile iPhone/Android app “Tip Submit.” Tipsters always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
