DES MOINES — Health officials say there are three strains of influenza circulating in Iowa.
The State Department of Public Health said influenza activity in the state remains at a low level, but the three strains mean a person could become ill with the flu three times.
The strains include a regular seasonal strain and a 2009 pandemic strain.
Officials said vaccination is the best protection. The vaccine covers all three detected strains.
The department says an average of 300,000 people in Iowa get the flu every year.
