Cabela's, the Sidney, Neb.-based hunting and outdoor outfitter, said Tuesday it plans to open a new 50,000-square-foot store in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
The store, which is expected to open in 2015, will be in a new development near the Trans-Canada Highway. The area is being developed by Cordova Realty.
It will be Cabela's first location in the greater Atlantic Canada area and will employ about 140 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.
“Thousands of outdoorsmen and women across New Brunswick have supported Cabela's through our catalogs and website for many, many years,” said Tommy Millner, Cabela's chief executive.
The Moncton store will include a mountain replica, museum-quality wildlife displays and an indoor archery range.
Cabela's established Cabela's Canada in 2007 with a store and headquarters for its Canadian operations in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Cabela's operates 50 stores across North America, including four in Canada — Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan; Edmonton, Alberta; and Winnipeg.
The retailer plans to open 18 additional locations in North America over the next two years, including a second Edmonton store in spring 2014; a Barrie, Ontario, location in summer 2014; and a Nanaimo, British Columbia store in fall 2014.
