A robbery suspect was shot in his face Thursday night in what Omaha police say was a bungled crime.
The shooting occurred in a Pontiac Sunfire after a restaurant delivery driver picked up three men near 33rd Street and Lincoln Boulevard.
The intentions of all four men are still being untangled, said Omaha Police Lt. Mark Matuza.
“Things went south,” he said.
During an argument shortly after 9 p.m. the Jimmy John's delivery man, who was driving, was pistol-whipped. As the men struggled over the gun, it went off and one of the robbers was shot, Matuza said.
The delivery man, Josiah Wyatt, 18, parked the car on Burt Street, near 40th Street.
The man who had been shot was described as a 17-year-old juvenile.
He was found on the porch of a house two blocks to the west and taken to Creighton University Medical Center in serious condition.
Wyatt was taken to a hospital for treatment of a cut on his head, Matuza said. The two other men ran from the Pontiac and had not been found late Thursday, he said.
