Dunkin' Donuts is officially open for business in North Platte.
The doors opened to the public at 5 a.m. Nov. 13, followed by a steady stream of customers.
“Everyone is really excited we're finally open,” said Lindee Doyle, project manager. “It's been busy, but the staff has handled it very well.”
Curiosity lured in Justin Kelly of North Platte.
“I came here because it's a new restaurant,” Kelly said. “I wanted to see what it was like."
“I like it all,” said Stacy Gant of North Platte, who had previously been to a Dunkin' Donuts. “Next time, I'm going to bring the kids.”
The store is operated by South Platte Coffee Shoppe, co-owned by Laura Sedlacek.
Sedlacek said the store currently has 70 employees, but applications are still being accepted.
The shop is located at 201 E. Platte Oasis Parkway, northeast of the Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 83 intersection. Doyle is hopeful the proximity to two major roadways will draw in travelers.
The next closest Dunkin' Donuts locations are Papillion, Omaha and Denver. The Papillion location, at 72nd and Cornhusker, opened in May, and the first Omaha store, at 144th and Q Streets, followed in August.
“Dunkin' has a good following,” Doyle said. “We're hoping it will bring more business to other places in town as well. Maybe if motorists stop here long enough to get coffee, they will also take time to shop.”
Wi-Fi is available in the shop, which is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Catering is available.
A grand opening is planned for Wednesday.
