The senior offensive tackle has managed to stay in the Husker starting lineup despite a knee injury that has kept him from finishing the past three games. Sirles plans to make his 40th career start Friday, which will be his final game at Memorial Stadium.
Q: How long did it take to thaw out after the game Saturday?>
A: The showers were cold, so that wasn’t fun. Then we had to wait in line for TSA screening, and those travel suits they give us aren’t exactly winter-proof. But once you got on the bus and got some food in your stomach, you felt pretty good.
Q: They did the screening outside?
A: They did the TSA screening outside. But it’s all right. I’d rather do it there than have to wait once we get to the airport.
Q: What was the flight home like, considering it could have been a long, quiet one if the team lost?
A: I remember the worst flight home was UCLA last year, and this was a great flight home. We watched the game, as usual, and we just got to make sure these flights home are fun. I slept, I watched a movie and had a pop.
Q: What was your reaction as you rewatched the game?
A: We didn’t do very well up front, to be honest with you. We have a lot to improve on. But we’ve got one more game to do it, which is good.
Q: This was another down-to-the-wire finish. Is there a different feeling in the huddle now when you’ve had success in these kinds of games?
A: We had a lot of these wins last year, so I think a lot of us have carried that feeling over to this year, and Tommy (Armstrong) and Ronnie (Kellogg) have been able to kind of bring their energy with us, and they’ve just been able to make good things happen. We did it a lot last year, we’ve done it a few times this year. ... It’s just kind of a testament to the culture of our offense.
Q: Where are you at for this week, and what will it mean to you to play Friday in your last home game?
A: I’m going to do absolutely everything in my power and I plan on being out there on Friday. I want to make sure I can play my last game in front of this home crowd that’s been so special to me and at a place that I’ll be able to call home for the rest of my life.
