The vest covered in tinsel that your grandpa wears opening presents. The snowman scarf that makes it into every Christmas card. The reindeer turtleneck your aunt won't give away.
You'll see a lot of those, ahem, festive fashion choices on Sunday. The Ugly Sweater Run is in Omaha this weekend.
Organizers expect more than 2,500 sweater-wearing runners to participate. That's half the crowd the event attracted when it debuted in Omaha last year.
Still, public relations coordinator Amber DiGiallonardo said Omaha is one of the national racing series' most popular locations. Most places draw 2,000 people, she said.
Omaha is one of 31 cities to host the Ugly Sweater Run this season.
There will be a hot chocolate station and, new this year, giant inflatables along the route downtown. Look for oversized candy canes, reindeer and an “enchanted forest.”
There will even be fake snow, though Omaha is covered in the real stuff.
After the race, runners can enjoy a beer and hard cider – two drink tickets come with your entry fee. There will be hot chocolate for minors and those with a sweet tooth.
The race fee also includes a stocking cap and fake mustaches in temporary tattoo form.
“A lot of people wear it on race day...It's awesome to see,” DiGiallonardo said.
People are encouraged to bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots, though it's not required.
Register online for $44 or at packet pick-up, which will be held at Sports Authority near 72nd and Dodge Streets in Omaha. You can sign up on race day for $50. There is a $5 discount per person if you register a 4-person team.
The race starts at 11 a.m.
