Whoever leads the newly combined Office of the Douglas County Assessor and Register of Deeds will make $120,000 the first year.
The Douglas County Board voted this week to set a salary for the new office, which starts in 2015. The board also approved an annual 2 percent cost-of-living raise each year through 2018, the end of the four-year term.
The vote was held over from last week because the board couldn’t agree on a starting rate. The county’s Human Resources Department had proposed an initial salary of $130,000. An unsuccessful proposal from board Chairwoman Mary Ann Borgeson would have started the office at $111,000.
Register of Deeds Diane Battiato and Assessor Roger Morrissey both are running for the office.
