Erectile dysfunction drugs do more than advertised. A new study shows Viagra also eases menstrual cramps in women.
Researchers found that vaginally administering sildenafil citrate – known commercially as Viagra – in women with moderate to severe menstrual cramps alleviated symptoms more so than a placebo. They believe it worked because the medication dilates blood vessels, allowing a flow of blood to flush out a pain-causing compound in the body.
The study was small, though – only 25 women participated – so further research is needed to confirm the findings.
