Council Bluffs police are continuing to investigate what led to the death of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found Saturday in the back seat of a car in the parking lot at J.C. Penney.
Officials on Monday interviewed seven people who were out that night with Mireya Mata-Alvarez, a former student at Lewis Central High School.
Mireya was with two girls and five boys, police said. Both girls — one of whom dialed 911 — were on the scene when emergency crews arrived, but the boys had left.
Police were called at 10:13 a.m. to 3333 Market Place Drive, where they found Mireya inside a vehicle.
Her body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny for an autopsy and toxicology tests. The results of those tests were not immediately available.
