The driver of a car that struck and killed a pedestrian at 38th and Pratt Streets has two previous convictions for drunken driving, according to Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles records.
Danyell A. Stanfield, 48, of Omaha had DUI convictions in 2009 and 1990.
Police said Stanfield was the driver of a car that struck Charles “Chain, Chain'' Tolbert Jr., 50, about 3:40 a.m. Monday. Tolbert apparently was pinned against a home at 3701 N. 38th St.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have provided few details about the crash and said it remained under investigation. No citations have been announced.
Gwendolyn Tolbert, sister of the victim, said her brother and Stanfield had been living together for about six months. Tolbert said her brother's nickname came from the Aretha Franklin song “Chain of Fools.''
Police said the Stanfield car was headed east on Pratt Street when it veered north into a corner lot and crashed into the south wall of a west-facing home at 3701 N. 38th St.
No one inside the home was hurt.
Stanfield was treated at the Nebraska Medical Center and released.
