Here's a few things I'm looking forward to in 2014:
→ The opening of Isa Chandra Moskowitz's first restaurant, Modern Love Omaha, at 1319 S. 50th St.
Moskowitz describes the menu as “swanky vegan comfort food,” and she said the restaurant will serve a revolving menu of made-from-scratch dishes. She'll make her own cheese, condiments and soda. She said she's working with local farms and the food will focus on vegetables. She'll also serve homemade pie.
→ The opening of Le Bouillon in the Old Market has been an exciting development for the neighborhood, and it's a great thing for Omaha to have a new restaurant in the same spot the French Cafe used to occupy.
→ Things I want to try cooking or making in 2014: grilled pizza, kombucha, green juice and chemex coffee. And I will be officially experimenting with my grandmother's cast-iron skillet, which I got for Christmas.
→ Let's hope to see more restaurants serving local food at an affordable price. Kitchen Table is leading the parade, and I'm hoping for more like it in 2014.
→ After a recent cocktail in the lounge at Johnny's Cafe, I think I will devote some time to rediscovering those kinds of Omaha classics.
