One thousand rainbow trout will be stocked in Big Lake in Council Bluffs on Friday, just in time for a youth fishing event on Saturday.
In an effort to promote fishing, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Council Bluffs Parks & Recreation Department will hold the youth event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A raffle drawing will be held to award prizes to young anglers in attendance.
“The trout stocking in Council Bluffs provides a unique opportunity for people looking for an outdoor activity,” says Bryan Hayes, fisheries biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Registration for Saturday’s event is from 9 to 10 a.m., with fishing starting at 9 a.m.
Kids under 16 years who are fishing with a properly licensed adult do not need a trout fee to fish for or possess trout, but together their daily limit is five trout. For more information on fishing rules, see the 2014 Iowa Fishing Regulations booklet.
A fishing license and trout fee can be obtained at any local hunting and fishing license sales agent or from the link of the Iowa DNR homepage at iowadnr.gov.
