BURWELL, Neb. — A woman whose husband and child were found dead in their home Tuesday had recently been jailed on suspicion of domestic abuse.
Tammy S. Melling, 33, of Burwell, was booked into the Valley County Jail late Jan. 3 after being arrested on suspicion of domestic assault and menacing threats. She posted bail the next day, according to Valley County Sheriff Casey Hurlburt.
She is to appear in court in Garfield County on Feb. 4, he said.
Hurlburt said the case is being handled by the Burwell Police Department. Melling was held in Valley County because Garfield County doesn't have a jail.
No further information about that case was available Thursday evening.
Melling's husband, Christopher Melling, 31, and daughter, Aimee Melling, who would have been 3 years old this month, were found dead in their home Tuesday afternoon.
The Nebraska State Patrol, Burwell Police Department, and Garfield County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting deaths as a murder-suicide.
Garfield County Attorney Dale Crandall is waiting on autopsy results in the case. Crandall said he doesn't know when the results will be available.
Crandall said the mother and a stepchild weren't home at the time of the deaths and weren't considered to have been involved in the shooting.
“We don't believe anyone other than the two people found in the house were involved,” he said earlier.
