Choosing the best steak in a city like Omaha is controversial -- trust me, I've done it once.
Now steak-lovers have yet another list. Thrillist released its list of the country's 21 best steakhouses. And two of the favorites were local joints: Farmer Brown's Steakhouse in Waterloo, Neb. and Mahogany Prime in Omaha.
The photo that goes along with Farmer Brown's Steakhouse on the site is decidedly retro, and that's one of the things the site likes about the Waterloo restaurant, which has been open since 1964.
The site reads: "The portions here are absolutely gargantuan, especially their slow-roasted prime rib (which comes in small, medium, and large varieties -- all of which are still large), and their cocktail bar features a ton of varieties of bourbon."
Thrillist also recommends the restaurant's lobster.
Mahogany Prime made the list for its bone-in 14-ounce filet. Thrillist says Mahogany serves U.S. Prime Midwestern beef in "probably the most custom-tailored dinner possible, allowing you to choose your own meal adventure right down to the color of your napkin."
Thrillist also give Warren Buffett the rebuff, recommending Mahogany over his other Omaha favorite, Gorat's.
No mention of his second favorite, Piccolo Pete's, in the list, nor of The World-Herald's favorite when we prowled for steak a year ago: Brother Sebastian's.
