Two traffic accidents Monday morning on Interstate 80 in Omaha involving three vehicles left one person dead and two others injured.
Police said a 37-year-old Des Moines man was killed and a 25-year-old Council Bluffs woman was injured about 6:05 a.m. in a two-vehicle accident on westbound I-80 between 36th and 42nd Streets.
Brian Pete was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Sarah Barker suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center.
Police said Pete’s 1996 Buick Regal was parked on the painted median just west of 36th Street.
Barker, who was driving a 2007 Honda Pilot, changed lanes over the median and struck the rear of the Buick, authorities said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, police said. It remains under investigation.
About 8:30 a.m. Monday, a 24-year-old Omaha man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of I-680 southbound and I-80 eastbound.
Police said Jacob Hughes was driving a 2006 Nissan pickup truck that was towing a trailer loaded with construction equipment. As the pickup navigated the curve to I-80, the trailer became unstable and swerved, causing the pickup to roll onto its side, police said. The truck and trailer left the roadway and went onto the inside shoulder.
Hughes was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center suffering from broken ribs. Police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
