LINCOLN — Renovations at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Student Union are behind schedule, but the work should be done soon, said Charlie Francis, director of the union.
Francis said all construction, including new flooring, should be done by the end of February. The final touch, delivery of furniture, should take place over spring break, he said.
“A lot of times you set your ideal time frame, and it doesn’t work to that,” he said.
Renovations should open up foot traffic in the Student Union, he said.
Francis said students played a large role in choosing the union’s renovations.
“Students wanted a more living room-family room environment,” he said.
With expected increases in UNL’s enrollment, Francis said, there will be a larger pool of student fees, which are paying for half the current project. He said it “would be wonderful” to do more renovations someday.
“It would completely transform the building and environment,” he said.
Francis said, however, there isn’t a plan for any further renovations at this point.
