Last year, Nebraska, Iowa and much of the central United States was cooler than normal, which made our area the contrarian when it came to global weather.
Nebraska had its 37th-coolest year in 119 years of recordkeeping, while Iowa had its 26th-coolest year, according to the National Climatic Data Center.
Globally, 2013 was the fourth-warmest year since records began in 1880, tying with 2003, according to the Climatic Data Center.
