LINCOLN — A third candidate has filed to serve eastern Nebraska's District 2 in the Nebraska Legislature.
The Rev. Mel Luetchens, a semi-retired United Methodist minister, filed Friday for the seat now occupied by State Sen. Bill Kintner of Papillion.
Luetchens, a native of Cass County, said he will focus on rural economic development, real property tax relief and fairer funding for rural schools.
“People have expressed to me the need for stronger representation that is more in tune with the values of our district,” he said. “I believe I will provide that strong representation.”
Luetchens, a 74-year-old Democrat, has served on the Nebraska Wesleyan University board of governors and on the board of the Center for Rural Affairs.
Former Cass County Board member Ron Nolte, a Republican, has also filed for the race.
