SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Sophomore guard Marissa Janning scored 28 points to lead Creighton to a 76-73 win Tuesday at Seton Hall.
In a game that featured 15 lead changes, Janning was involved in every important scoring spurt, including the decisive run that the Bluejays ahead for good.
The victory moved CU (13-8, 7-2) within a half-game of St. John's for first place in the Big East.
After Seton Hall (13-6, 4-4)scored the first four points of the game, Janning made a jumper which started a 12-0 run. But the Pirates forced three consecutive turnovers en route to tying the game 12-12.
The teams then traded the lead several times until the Jays took a 36-32 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the teams traded baskets until Janning started the decisive run. Down 51-49 with about 10 minutes left, she hit a 3-pointer from the corner to start a 11-3 spurt.
Janning finished 9 of 20 from the field, including 4 of 10 from 3-point range. Forward Sarah Nelson had 11 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. McKenzie Fujan added 16 points and Alexis Akin-Otiko scored 10 off the bench.
CU shot 43.8 percent from the field and made 8 of 26 3-pointers to compensate for committing 13 turnovers. The Bluejays also made 14 of 20 second-half free throws.
Bra'Shey Ali led Seton Hall with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Creighton returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Villanova.
