Pottawattamie County authorities released the name an Oakland, Iowa, man killed in a two-pickup truck crash Saturday afternoon in southwest Iowa.
Joshua Fritz, 31, died Saturday at the scene of the wreck on 360th Street south of Iowa Highway 92 east of Treynor, the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Around 12:46 p.m., Fritz was northbound on 360th Street in a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck, with his 4-year-old son as a passenger. At the same time, Jordan Easton, 19, of Council Bluffs and a passenger, Brendan Jones, 22, of Omaha, were southbound on 360th Street in a 2003 Dodge pickup truck.
The two vehicles crashed at the crest of a hill on the snow- and ice-covered roadway, the Sheriff’s Office said. An investigation into what caused the accident continues, according to Sheriff Jeff Danker.
Fritz died from injuries suffered in the crash. Rescue squad personnel cut his son free from the pickup and Macedonia Rescue transported him to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, where he was treated and then released.
A Macedonia rescue squad took Jones to CUMC, while a Carson rescue squad took Easton to Mercy Hospital in the Bluffs. Easton was treated and released.
