Two men were hospitalized with serious injuries Friday after a north Omaha house fire.
The injured men were identified by their landlord as Donald and Ryan Peterson. Both were listed in fair condition at the Nebraska Medical Center.
The fire at 3736 N. 39th St. was reported at 4:25 p.m.
Omaha Fire Capt. Rob Gottsch said the blaze started in the back bedroom and was contained to the first floor. No cause had been announced Friday night.
Neighbors said the injured men are a father and adult son.
Tim Fickensher, who lives across the street, said the younger man shouted for help and the older man clung to the front door frame, unable to make it any further. Bonnie Conner, who lives a few houses down, said she called 911 and helped Fickensher get the two men away from the house.
Conner pointed to mail on the driveway.
The younger man “came out without shoes,” she said. “He stood on his mail to keep his feet from freezing.”
